“When you see these poor dogs and they are very close to dying, and you help them, and after you see them healthy and they run happy, and they come to you and give you so much love...it’s amazing feeling.”

Day Visits

OPEN 11:00 AM — 1:00 PM Monday - Saturday
CLOSED Sunday

Please note: the number of people who can visit per day is limited.

If you wish to visit you should send me a private message 2-3 days in advance via Facebook so we can arrange to come pick you up from the town and lead you to the shelter. There is no address to the shelter nor can I give the coordinates because in order to get to the shelter you need to pass through another private property that has a locked gate. I have the keys so I need to come and pick you up and take you to the shelter.

The gates open at 11AM and close again at 1PM.

We welcome visitors who wish to bring donations, visit the dogs and cats, and look for a new family member. Because of the dogs’ needs, it is not possible to accommodate a different schedule on a daily basis. Thank you for your understanding.

For your comfort, please bring sunglasses, wind protection, sunscreen, and plenty of water or beverages. Sturdy shoes are strongly recommended.

Extended Stay Volunteering

LONG-TERM VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are integral to Takis Shelter’s operations. We now have on-site volunteer housing for up to three long-term volunteers and will be looking for qualified persons who will stay for more than 2-3 months.

Extended stay volunteers must stay overnight on the premises and not in the town, due to the gate schedule, intensive training required, and the animals’ needs.

In the future I will have more opportunities for short-stay volunteers. Please stay tuned for updates!

CURRENT OPENINGS

We are looking for one (1) long-term volunteer who specializes in cats. This person will stay on-site at the shelter in the cat area and help socialize the rescued cats to prepare them for adoption.

If you are interested, please click the button to apply.
